Welcome to American Sumi-e, where you immerse in rich fascinating East Asian cultural art form,  both ancient and modern. I'm a Asian Brush Painting Artist and Teacher who loves to share my passion for this art form.

Sumi-e  means Japanese Ink Painting

What is Sumi-e?

Sumi'e is an ancient East Asian art form originating in China for over 4000 years. This art form was  adopted in the 17th century by the Japanese. Sumi-e is the Japanese word for "Ink Painting"  Variations of this art has been adopted by many Asian cultures. The aim of each creative piece is to capture the subject's  'chi' or energy, not just reproducing reality.  In the process the artist finds peace, mediation, and a deep appreciation of nature and all life forms. The artist invites you to enter this special creative realm.
